Kram Player of the Week – Nebojsa Kuljic

Western Canada Redmen’s Nebojsa Kuljic prefers to patrol the perimeter of the attacking zone in hopes of being able to knock down a long-range jumper.
He can make them too on a fairly consistent basis.
“Definitely outside,” said Kuljic when asked where he prefers to play. “I do like to shoot the three, it’s what I’ve done my whole career so far and I’d rather do that, but really, with the motion in the offense we play I’m everywhere on the court and shoot just as many threes as the next guy.”
But his 6’5” frame makes him one of the taller players on the squad, meaning the grade-12 student is usually found deep in the paint battling the opponents big man for hard-earned points and rebounds.
“Nebojsa goes into most games knowing he’s undersized for the position he’s playing, but he absolutely battles in there, and he has to win those battles with his positioning and his intensity,” said Redmen’s head coach Steve Wiebe.
“He’s long and he’s athletic, he gives up a lot of size in the post but he has a huge heart.”
During last week’s Spolumbo’s Game of the Week against the Sir Winston Churchill Bulldogs, Kuljic was dealt the unenviable task of matching up against arguable the leagues most dominant big man in Brad Clark, who recently committed to suit up for the University of Calgary Dinos. Continue…

Pride Move on to Face Ghosts in Div I Semi Finals

Anthony Manful’s defense had been a thorn in the sides of the St. Mary’s Saints throughout the entire game.
And on a fumbled inbounds pass with just 25 seconds to play in an extremely tight quarter-final match between the Notre Dame Pride and the St. Mary’s Saints, Manful made perhaps the most important defensive play of the game by pouncing on a bungled in-bounds pass to negate the Saints’ last-ditch effort to tie the game.
On top of making the key defensive play, Manuful was also tasked with stopping Aloysius Callaghan, the Saints’ most dangerous scorer.
“He did a wonderful job on him,” said Pride’s head coach Mike McFarland. “But in spite of that, I bet the kid still had seven threes out there. I thought he did a really good job, and the big steal when we’re up by three at the end of the game, he played a great game.”

Callaghan didn’t finish with seven three pointer on his own, but that is how many shots the Saints hit from beyond the arc in the first half.
Josh Jebose and David Lodovica each scored 24 points as the Pride earned a date with the Bishop Grandin Ghosts on Thursday night in semi-final action thanks to their 77-71 victory over the Saints.
Nick Ettinger led the Saints with 18 points. Continue…

This time, speed trumped size.
The Western Canada Redmen deployed a blistering fast three-man press for 40 minutes to counter the Sir Winston Churchill Bulldog’s considerable size advantage to claim a convincing 93-69 victory.
Nebojsa Kuljic and Francis Cormier each chipped in with 17 points and Ammon Crowfoot added 16 points to pace the Redmen’s scoring.
