Redemption is a beautiful thing in the world of sports.
It’s especially sweet when it’s earned in the biggest game of the year.
After falling short in last year’s championship final against the Western Canada Redmen the Bishop Grandin Ghosts took care of business with a 75-51 victory over the Father Lacombe Lasers in the senior boy’s division one final Saturday night at Crescent Heights High School.
The Ghosts exorcised some demons by defeating the Redmen in overtime in Thursday night’s semi final.
That victory erased any lingering pains felt after losing to the Redmen in the city and Provincial 4A finals.
“The kids earned this,” said Ghosts’ head coach Kevin O’Neill. “For the last six weeks they really started to figure it out, at the start of the year we had some chemistry issues with the new guys coming in, but as a team now they really figured it out and their chemistry is terrific. It really showed Thursday against Western and it showed again tonight.”
And even though the Ghosts’ cast of players is vastly different this season after a large turnover in players, the rivalry they built last season against the Redmen definitely stayed with this year’s squad. Continue…
