The Bishop O’byrne Bobcats’ senior boys football team continues their impressive inaugural season in Div I.
After handily defeating the St. Mary’s Saints 32-7 on Tuesday evening, the Bobcats now set their sights on the 6-1 Bowness Trojans.

Ufuoma Ikporo ran for two touchdowns, Denzel Morrison ran for one and Kevin Strybosch caught a 20-yard pass from quarterback Cody Dickinson to take care of the scoring for the Bobcats.
It’s no secret that the Bobcats have relied heavily on their superb running game through most of the games this season.
And with studs like Morrison and Ikporo in the backfield, why wouldn’t they.
But as the season has rolled along, the Bobcats have started to mix in more and more of the passing game to keep the opponents’ defense on their toes.
Against the Saints, the running game was brilliant, but so was Dickinson when called upon to use his arms to move the offense down the field.
“When we played St. Mary’s the first time we went through a stretch where we threw the ball 14 times and every time we threw it, something bad happened,” said MacCready. “This game we knew we were going to mix it up. It gave the offense a bit more confidence.”
The Bobcats got on the board three minutes into the opening quarter when Morrison plunged into the end zone on a short two-yard run.
Early in the second quarter Dickinson found Strybosch streaking across the end zone with a 20-yard pass to extend their lead to 14-0.
Strybosch also had three interceptions on the night playing the safety position.
With 2:30 left in the first half Ikporo scored his second touchdown of the game on a 40-yard run to extend the Bobcats’ lead to 23-0
But the Saints responded with an impressive 65-yard run by Michaels Nunziata with just 1:23 left on the clock.
But the Bobcats refused to let the late Saints touchdown result in a momentum swing.
Just 45 seconds into the third quarter Ikporo scored his second touchdown of the game on a 1-yard run into the endzone.
The Bobcats now get ready to play a very well-prepared and rested Bowness team on Tuesday night to battle it out for which team gets to play in the city final on November 7th.
“They’re going to be watching this film and they’re going to see that we can pass now,” said MacCready. “Sometimes I think that they brought ten guys up to the line of scrimmage on us, and they played some pretty funky defense.”
The two teams battled it out earlier this season, and the Trojans came away with a 11-4 victory.
The Trojans deployed their excellent run-stop defense to keep the Bobcats’ offense from putting any majors on the board, but with a new-found passing game the Bobcats are hoping that the Trojans’ will be at least a little bit concerned about Dickinson hitting his receivers for some big gains.
“They’re going to be watching this film and they’re going to see that we can pass now,” said MacCready. “Sometimes I think that they brought ten guys up to the line of scrimmage on us, and they played some pretty funky defense.”
