Browns Impressive in Win Over Bobcats

Losing big hurts, especially against one of your biggest rivals.

After getting shellacked 44-10 last week by the Notre Dame Pride, the St. Francis Browns needed a bounce-back victory this week to set them up with some confidence heading into the playoffs.

With second place and a bye in week one of the playoffs on the line, the Browns squared off against the powerful Bishop O’Byrne Bobcats in this week’s Kram Game of the Week.

The result was a gritty 22-7 victory for the Browns, helping them sew up the second seed and ensuring an extra week of rest before possibly facing the Bobcats again in the senior boys’ Div I semi final.

“It was huge because if we won this game we got a bye,” said Browns’ head coach Joe Stambene. “The win was really good for us because we have a couple of kids that are dinged so we need that break. It was great that the kids were able to work hard for the win so that we could come in second.”

But as much as the Browns needed the victory for standings purposes, the confidence they regained thanks to a convincing win over a quality opponent in the last game of the year was just what the doctor ordered.

“I’m ecstatic,” said Stambene. “We needed a victory like this after getting absolutely pounded by Notre Dame, and we needed to come out and play physical and I think our kids did that today.” Continue…
